About

Hi, I’m Kody. I’m a creative director, designer, & photographer.

My creative practice emphasizes conceptual rigor, typography, real-world materials, and the people at the heart of it all. I am driven by highfalutin’ ideas like embodied work, beauty for its own sake, and a deep respect for the attention that we so often give away. I primarily work as a designer and creative director, but love to practice in a wide range of mediums wherever the opportunity might present.

Previous to my current role at RKD Group, I spent 13 years building the design practice & creative culture at Whiteboard, an award-winning creative agency based in Chattanooga that served well over 300 clients in that same period through digital, brand, media, and campaigns.

Much of my contribution in that time reached beyond client work into creative leadership; in that role, I emphasize encouraging-and-direct working relationships, healthy mistake-making, a constant learning environment, a thoughtful creative diet, and the correct use of punctuation.

I live, work, and make things in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where I founded & host the local CreativeMornings chapter, tend a garden, ride bikes, and share a vibrant community with my wife and creative conspirator Liz Bounds.

This website typeset using Louize by 205tf for headings, display typography, and everywhere a beautiful French serif is needed, along with GT Mechanik from Grilli Type for body copy, eyebrows, labels, and everywhere you find a sans.

It was entirely designed & written by a human (me), using Figma, iA Writer, Zed, paper and pen, and MyMind, among others.

It’s running on the wonderful open-source static site generator 11ty, and runs the lightweight, privacy-focused Plausible Analytics on Netlify.

Perhaps controversially, all of the code was written by the current Claude models at my many specific directions. I do not miss writing JavaScript—no shade if you do, but I’d rather be outside than debugging for () loops.
